Chris Ploof Designs
Chris Ploof Designs is renowned for its mastery of Damascus steel and karat gold mokume gane, specializing in exceptional rings that blend artistry, innovation, and tradition. Widely regarded as the foremost American studio in this technique, Chris and his team craft each piece through a meticulous process: layers of steel alloys or gold in varied colors are fused together under intense heat and pressure, then forged into mesmerizing patterns. While the designs may appear spontaneous, every detail is intentional — patterns can be recreated with precision, reflecting both technical skill and creative vision.
Based in Massachusetts, Chris Ploof Designs exemplifies modern American craftsmanship and ingenuity. Within their 10,000-square-foot, fully solar-powered facility, a dedicated team of goldsmiths produces jewelry of uncompromising quality and refinement. Clint Cross – Turquoise Mustang
Clint is a long time local who has been mining for Turquoise in Cripple Creek for decades. He and his family mine the turquoise, cut the gems and fashion the jewelry from start to finish. Clint, a member of the Sokoki tribe of the Missiquoi Abenaki Nation, believes that turquoise is a healing and sacred gem and believes that the turquoise “talks” to him. The size, shape and color of each individual piece tells him exactly what type of piece to create with it. Cripple Creek turquoise has silica in its structure, so it is harder and more durable than most and is completely natural and certified by the AGTA to have no treatments or stabilization. Due to the hardness, it is able to be faceted which adds to the beauty and uniqueness of his gems.
Sam Kaffine – Sterling Bliss
I believe in classics, stargazing, laughter, and the joy of dogs’ kisses. I believe in real friendships, natural gems, fine pearls, and jewelry that makes you feel full of light and strength—more essentially you.
My name is Sam Kaffine. I create jewelry because it thrills me to transform silver, gold, and gemstones into small, radiant works of art. Trained in Santa Fe under master jewelers and now based in the Colorado mountains with my husband and three bird dogs, I handcraft each piece using quality materials—Argentium sterling silver, 9K–22K gold, copper, natural gemstones, and pearls. For me, jewelry is more than adornment—it communicates, celebrates, and reminds you of who you are.
